SELECTION (Application Screening, Test, Interview)

In considering the applicant for admission to the university, his/her application for a scholarship is effectively irrelevant. What is assessed is whether the applicant meets the entry requirements of the university for that course and can be offered a place. The offer of place is always conditional on the applicant's ability to cover the fees (from their own money or from other sources, such as a scholarship). When an applicant has been considered suitable fir admission, he/she will be sent an offer of admission.

An offer of admission to the university does not mean that the applicant will be awarded a scholarship.
In considering the suitability for a scholarship, the university is looking for something more- not just that applicant meets the necessary academic standards. Admission to the university is essential but not necessarily enough. The "extra" quality that they are looking for is primarily academic excellence, but also to reflect the objectives of scholarship schemes and the other co-funders (OSI and FCO). The shortlists are drawn up by the universities on the basis of the above factors. These are the applicants who are considered the most appropriate- on paper- for a scholarship.

English language requirements
Students from overseas must be proficient in spoken and written English. Applicants for whom English is a foreign language must provide evidence that they have achieved the necessary standard in one of the recognized International tests of English language competence (e.g. a minimum score of 6.5 on the British Council IELTS or a minimum score of 600 on the American TOEFL). OSI administers the institutional TOEFL from the short listed candidates.

English Language Tests Requirements
Accepts IELTS and OFFICIAL TOEFL. Under no circumstances accepts institutional TOEFL.

IELTS: 6.5

TOEFL (paper based) 575/600 depending on course

TOEFL (computer based) 233/250 depending on course

Interview
Interviews are arranged in each country for the shortlisted applicants. The interview committees should consist of:

· a representative for the OSI;
· a representative for the FCO;
· (sometimes) a representative of the university.
